I should really write a decent entry and tell you all about sailor life, but when I finally sit here it's like I have lost all energy and am basically just happy to write something and show the world I'm still alive. Maybe I'll just make this entry and edit it later tomorrow or so. Who is reading my journal anyway?

But still, I have been to sea for about four month, got home like a month ago. Still tired. I have been engine apprentice and learned the work of motorman. Speaking of which, I have received my certificate now. So what does a motorman do? Here is a summary of some things:
Take readings every day. It's temperature, running hours and different levels. During weekend you do the weekly routine of checking lifeboat engine, high bilge-water alarm as well as manually check the fuel tanks. In port you are bunker watch, meaning that you put on the connection and taking sample which will be sent to a laboratory and remove the connection when finished. You also keep watch while discharge of sludge/bilge-water. It is to ensure that if anything happens, the discharge will quickly be stopped. The inside of the ship is to be attended by the engine crew; changing light bulbs, fixing sewage pipes that doesn't work as they should as well as toilets. I have even experienced to put up a painting in the dining hall! The motorman also assists the engineers during maintenance work and cleans the engine spaces as well as occasionally clean tanks that are not cargo tanks or ballast tanks, for example fresh water tanks or lube oil tanks. But that I haven't experienced yet. On the other hand I have been into boiler and main engines to clean.

I have realized it may seem like I have only been to one ship, but actually it was was two. The other was a tank ship called Fure Star and I don't have a camera, so that's why you won't see any pictures from that ship. I got the possibility to borrow a camera from a crewmember at Stena Nautica so that's explains the pictures from there eventhough I'm a cameraless person. Well, I can always borrow my mother's old minolta, but then I would have to scan the pictures and I don't got a scanner. Anyway, that's all for now.
